Nakkila Works Oy has been granted the Safety Champions Award for its excellent safety performance in the Stegra Green Steel project. The award was presented for the Water Treatment Plant 1 project, where Nakkila Works Oy is responsible for the tank structures of the water treatment facility.

The recognition is based on systematic and consistent safety work carried out in demanding industrial environments. According to the award committee, the Nakkila Works Oy team has demonstrated strong commitment to a safe working environment, daily safety observations, and the sharing of expert knowledge in the construction of water treatment tanks.

A particularly significant achievement is that the project has been executed for a full year without a single accident at the Nakkila Works Oy site. This is a remarkable result in an environment that involves heavy and demanding lifting operations, working at heights and in confined spaces, as well as challenging steel construction tasks.

Nakkila Works Oy to deliver a new Energy Storage Facility to Pori Energia

Nakkila Works Oy has been selected as the supplier for a new energy storage facility to be built in Pori Energia’s Aittaluoto site. The project will enhance the flexibility of Pori Energia’s district heat production and improve the utilization of the recently completed electric boiler in varying electricity market conditions.

The energy storage facility will be constructed in the Aittaluoto power plant area. Nakkila Works Oy’s delivery includes an 8,500 m³ district heating accumulator along with its equipment and process systems. The design phase is already underway, construction of the heat accumulator will begin in autumn 2026, and commissioning of the energy storage is expected to take place in summer 2027.

“It is great to work together with a major local energy company on a project that improves the energy efficiency of district heating production in the region and supports the transition towards low‑emission solutions,” says Jussi Kivioja, CEO of Nakkila Works Oy.

The previous energy storage projects delivered by Nakkila Works Oy to Pori Energia were completed in 2023. This new project continues the long-term cooperation between the companies and further strengthens Nakkila Works Oy’s position as a significant supplier of energy storage solutions in Finland and the Nordic countries.

Nakkila Works Oy among top 10% in industry and top 20% across all sectors in global sustainability assessment

Contractor monthly safety reward received from Stora Enso

Stora Enso has given Nakkila Works Oy a Contractor of the month safety reward at their Oulu site. Nakkila Works Oy was chosen from among more than a thousand contractors working at the construction site. Stora Enso has given monthly safety rewards since from the beginning of 2024.

According to Stora Enso, Nakkila Works Oy:

Has shown good and open safety co-operation with Stora Enso during the project
Responds efficiently to safety observations and make corrections
Work site is always in good order
Has shown good safety performance

“With a wider perspective we see this reward as a result of years of continuous work with improving our safety culture. Safety at work is important not only to our own personell but also to our customers and partners. Especially on large construction sites like Stora Enso Oulu it is essential to have good co-operation with the customer and also with other contractors. Kemi bioproduct mill started up

Metsä Group´s new bioproduct mill in Kemi started up today on 20th September 2023. Kemi mill is the largest investment in Finland´s history of pulp and paper industry. Besides pulp, the mill produces tall oil and turpentine, as well as two terawatt hours of renewable electricity per year in a very environmentally friendly manner. Metsä Group’s products replace fossil materials in people’s daily lives. The new mill uses zero fossil fuels and will be completely waste-free by 2030.

Nakkila Works Oy was happily involved in building the new mill. We delivered the project 26pcs of storage and process tanks during the years 2022-23. Delivered tanks varied from 1m³ to over 2000m³ in size. Part of the tanks were ready-built at our workshop in Nakkila and the larger ones were built at Kemi site. All our tanks were handed over to customer on schedule.

Well this was an exiting project. Industrial construction meets art. Nakkila Works Oy delivered the energy storage as a turn key delivery – including the civil works. Because of the size and location of the energy storage, the outfit design and it´s demanding technical solution was defined in cooperation with the client. The energy storage was ready for hand over in the original schedule.

Improving the climate, one heat accumulator at a time

Nakkila Works Oy has signed a contract with Fortum Oslo Varme AS for a delivery of a+350MWh heat accumulator at their Haraldrud district heating plant in Oslo. The accumulator is purposed to even further improving the plant´s energy efficiency and allow the company to utilize energy price variations in their production.

The delivery includes a large taylor-made heat accumulator vessel over 20 meters in diameter for district heating water. The contract was signed in March 2021 and the heat accumulator tank is planned to contribute to distribution of greener energy to Fortum Oslo Varme’s customers in the latter part of 2022.

This is a fantastic continuation to Nakkila Works Oy´s heat accumulator deliveries to Norway, and a significant sign for a need for our products in the effort of winning our common climate battle.

Fortum Oslo Varme AS is the heating producer for 160.000 households in the Oslo region and their very strict health, safety and environmental standards are playing a significant role in the planning and executing this prestigius project. We are up for the challenge.

A new lubricant plant in Haninge, Sweden

Fuchs Lubricants Sweden AB is building a new lubricant plant in Haninge, Sweden. Nakkila Works Oy was selected as a contractor for tanks and other equipments including site installations. Besides of buying only new tanks, they wanted to make use for the used tanks from the old factory. This was found to be an effective way of reducing the total investment cost and saving resources. In other words, with expanding the lifecycle of experienced process equipment we can attribute to the reduction of the carbon footprint of our clients.

This tankfarm project had it all: turn-key delivery of new equipments, reinstallations and modification of old equipments, and installations of 3rd party equipments. With our inhouse resources and experienced project management, all this was done in a customer friendly and cost efficient way as a one-stop shop service concept.

Not totally finished here yet, but already we are proud to be involved. Special thanks to the Fuchs Lubricants Sweden AB staff for fluent cooperation.
